Side A // Party of One
In May of 2020, three months into the mandated national lockdown of the Coronavirus-19 pandemic, I gave 12 people living alone one disposable camera each. The photos they made within a two week period hang next to their portraits, giving us snapshots into their daily lives during a time of government required isolation.
Interspersed between their work are my own photos and notes made living alone throughout the entire pandemic, as well as my bed, nightstand, weed roaches, and the book ‘A Very Easy Death’ by Simone DeBeauvoir. My record player spins the record, ‘Where We Were Together’ by Say Sue Me, on its dead wax so no music plays.
As I reflect back on the novel year, I think of a needle tracking dead wax: the record still spinning, humming along a locked groove, waiting to be flipped.
Show awarded by the Cleveland Print Room’s 2020 National Juried Peer Show for my photograph, Steve Arrington, which took ‘Best In Show’.
